RE-INVENTING STUDY ABROAD

Globalization & smartphones make cultural immersion more difficult to achieve these days -- especially for study abroad students. To solve this problem, Robbie built The Pocket Anthropologist – an app that takes students on “missions” to 1) leverage their use of smartphones in a scholarly way, 2) increase their contact with the diversity of human behavior around them, and 3) integrate their learning across the college community.

Robbie started the program at Goucher College, which has the number one program in study abroad and where every student studies abroad!  The Pocket Anthropologist is now part of Goucher College’s curriculum and a requirement for graduation.

Getting internal Alignment first

Most companies and organizations have some need to focus on teamwork, bringing people together, and other organizational hurdles. Recent work at MIT's Presencing Institute suggests all businesses and organizations need to do this work. Why? Because we are in truly transformational times and they believe innovation will not happen with the current structural processes within businesses and organizations today. Since we at Context like to do transformational work, we believe the most successful projects will start with some level of getting internal alignment first. Whether those processes go to the level that MIT suggests is up to the companies and organizations that choose to take this path with us.
